The best sheet for New Year labels

Labels for New Year's party favours, champagne bottles, countdown bags and the new-address cards many people send in January. OnlineLabels OL9810 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for New Year labels here.

Each label is 3 15/16″ (100 mm) wide and 1 15/16″ (49.2 mm) tall (oval), with a 0.531″ (13.5 mm) top margin and a 0.281″ (7.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Happy New Year”, has 14 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 7 lines of 38 characters, at 8 pt about 9 lines of 48.

Compared with OL9810: Avery 5294 has 82 % of the label area and 12 instead of 10 labels per sheet, Avery 5160 has 34 % of the label area and 30 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your favours need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Design ideas for New Year labels

Settings to try in the designer above (style, accent colour and font); every idea prints on OnlineLabels OL9810 and the other sheets listed here.

  • Gold frame (preset)

Frame style in a dark mustard accent that prints as gold, with centred Times text.

  • Midnight band

Band style in navy behind “Cheers to 2027” for bottle and favour labels.

  • Countdown plain

Plain style with big bold text and a merged list of times for countdown bags.

Tips for printing New Year labels

  • Countdown bags work well with a merge list of times (9 pm, 10 pm, 11 pm, midnight), one label per bag.
  • Bottles from the fridge sweat: put labels on at room temperature and chill afterwards.
  • Gold does not exist in normal printer inks; a dark mustard accent (like the preset) reads as gold on white paper.
  • If you moved this year, a January card with a new-address label is a friendly way to update everyone's list.

When to print New Year labels

New Year's Day falls on Friday, January 1, 2027, 69 days after this page's data date (October 24, 2026). Labels print in minutes, so the timing that matters is when your favours have to be ready.

Print one test sheet on plain paper first: it shows scaling or alignment problems before they cost a label sheet.

Frequently asked questions

What size are New Year labels?

LabelGrid's default for New Year labels is 1 15/16″ × 3 15/16″ (OnlineLabels OL9810, 10 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5294 at 2 1/2″ round, Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″ and Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″.

How many New Year labels fit on one sheet?

10 on OnlineLabels OL9810, 12 on Avery 5294, 30 on Avery 5160 and 6 on Avery 5164. For 50 favours at 1 label each you need 5 sheets of OnlineLabels OL9810.

Can every label on the sheet be different?

Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits New Year labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.

When is New Year's Day?

The next New Year's Day after this page's data date (October 24, 2026) is Friday, January 1, 2027. Print a test sheet a few days before you need the favours, and check your postal service for mailing dates if you send them.

Why do my New Year labels print out of line?

Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
