How the Avery 5389 sheet is laid out

The 1 column and 2 rows of Avery 5389 labels are centred: 1 1/4″ of backing at each side, 1 1/2″ at the top and bottom.

No gaps at all: every 5389 label touches its neighbours, so keep an inner margin of 1/8″ and avoid full-bleed colour.

Labels cover 51 % of the page; the rest is backing.

No other sheet in LabelGrid's data (the gLabels database plus checked additions) has exactly the Avery 5389 layout, so avoid "close enough" templates.

How much text fits on an Avery 5389 label

At 10 pt a 5389 label holds about 22 lines of 82 characters: room for a full shipping block, a packing list or a page of notes, so larger type (14 pt gives 16 lines) is usually the better choice. Helvetica estimates with a 1/8″ inner margin; the tool shrinks text that does not fit.

Where the Avery 5389 numbers come from

The 5389 size, count, layout and margins match Avery's published template (checked 2026-10-24), blank template U-0118-01. Data note: Avery's blank template U-0118-01: the two 4 x 6 in postcards sit edge to edge from 1 1/2 in top (vertical pitch 4 in); gLabels had 1 1/4 in top and a 4 1/2 in pitch, which put both cards 6.35 mm off. Other geometry: gLabels template database (avery-us-templates.xml). LabelGrid is not affiliated with Avery (Avery® is a trademark of its owner); "5389" only names the sheet this template fits.
