Avery 5366 in LibreOffice Writer, step by step

  1. Open the Labels dialog

In LibreOffice Writer, choose File › New › Labels; the dialog has Labels, Format and Options tabs, and all three matter for 5366.

  2. Pick the 5366 template

On the Labels tab, choose the Brand “Avery Letter Size” and look for 5366 in Type. Brand and type lists vary by version; if 5366 is missing, use the next step.

  3. Or enter 5366 by hand

On the Format tab enter the 5366 values: Horizontal pitch 4 in, Vertical pitch 0.667 in, Width 3.438 in, Height 0.667 in, Left margin 0.531 in, Top margin 0.5 in, Columns 2, Rows 15, Page width 8.5 in, Page height 11 in; save it for next time.

  4. Edit once, copy to all

On the Options tab tick Synchronize contents and click New Document. Edit the top-left 5366 label, then click Synchronize Labels to copy it to all 30.

  5. Merge a spreadsheet

For one 5366 label per row, pick your registered spreadsheet under Database and Table on the Labels tab and insert its fields; when you print, LibreOffice asks whether to print a form letter: answer Yes.

  6. Print 5366 at 100 %

File › Print: paper US Letter, no “fit to page” scaling; a plain-paper test should show 15 rows of 5366 labels 0.667 in apart.

Worked example: 20 shelf labels on 5366

A merge of 20 rows prints 1 page of 30 Avery 5366 labels; the last page uses 20 positions and 10 stay blank. Preview the first page before sending all 1 to the printer.

In the LabelGrid designer the same 20 rows go into merge mode; the free version prints the first 30 (one full 5366 sheet) and Pro removes the limit. To reuse a part-used sheet, set the start position to the first empty label.

The LibreOffice Writer numbers for Avery 5366

Horizontal / vertical pitch 4 in / 0.667 in
Width / height 3.438 in / 0.667 in
Left / top margin 0.531 in / 0.5 in
Columns / rows 2 / 15
Page width / height 8.5 in / 11 in

When 5366 labels print out of line in LibreOffice Writer

  • 5366 labels print on the wrong paper size: check Format › Page Style matches US Letter; LibreOffice may default to your locale's paper.
  • Only the first 5366 label changed: Synchronize contents was off. Open the Options tab again, tick it, and click Synchronize Labels.
  • Text cut off on the first or last 5366 row: many printers leave about 1/4″ (6 mm) unprinted, and 5366 has 0.5 in at the top and 0.5 in at the bottom, so keep LibreOffice Writer text 0.063 in inside each label.
