Avery 8160 in LibreOffice Writer, step by step
-
Open the Labels dialog
In LibreOffice Writer, choose File › New › Labels; the dialog has Labels, Format and Options tabs, and all three matter for 8160.
-
Pick the 8160 template
On the Labels tab, choose the Brand “Avery Letter Size” and look for 8160 in Type. Brand and type lists vary by version; if 8160 is missing, use the next step.
-
Or enter 8160 by hand
On the Format tab enter the 8160 values: Horizontal pitch 2.75 in, Vertical pitch 1 in, Width 2.625 in, Height 1 in, Left margin 0.188 in, Top margin 0.5 in, Columns 3, Rows 10, Page width 8.5 in, Page height 11 in; save it for next time.
-
Edit once, copy to all
On the Options tab tick Synchronize contents and click New Document. Edit the top-left 8160 label, then click Synchronize Labels to copy it to all 30.
-
Merge a spreadsheet
For one 8160 label per row, pick your registered spreadsheet under Database and Table on the Labels tab and insert its fields; when you print, LibreOffice asks whether to print a form letter: answer Yes.
-
Print 8160 at 100 %
File › Print: paper US Letter, no “fit to page” scaling; a plain-paper test should show 10 rows of 8160 labels 1 in apart.
Worked example: 25 Valentine's Day labels on 8160
A merge of 25 rows prints 1 page of 30 Avery 8160 labels; the last page uses 25 positions and 5 stay blank. Preview the first page before sending all 1 to the printer.
In the LabelGrid designer the same 25 rows go into merge mode; the free version prints the first 30 (one full 8160 sheet) and Pro removes the limit. To reuse a part-used sheet, set the start position to the first empty label.

When 8160 labels print out of line in LibreOffice Writer
- 8160 labels print on the wrong paper size: check Format › Page Style matches US Letter; LibreOffice may default to your locale's paper.
- Only the first 8160 label changed: Synchronize contents was off. Open the Options tab again, tick it, and click Synchronize Labels.
- If every 8160 label printed from LibreOffice Writer is off by the same amount, the printer feeds off-centre: add the measured offset to the 0.5 in top or 0.188 in side margin, or use the LabelGrid printer offset.
- 8160 sheets are made for inkjet printers: if the printer settings in the print dialog of LibreOffice Writer offer a label or heavy-paper media type, pick it, and let the ink dry for a minute before you stack the sheets or peel the first label.
About the Avery 8160 sheet
Avery® 8160 (address labels) has 30 labels of 1″ × 2 5/8″ per US Letter sheet. 8160 is the inkjet version of 5160; both share one layout, so a 5160 template prints on 8160 sheets. The same layout is sold under other Avery codes too (5160, 5260, 5510, 5520, 5560, 5810 and more), so these settings work for them as well.
Common jobs for 8160: Halloween address labels, Christmas address labels, Christmas card address labels, holiday address labels and Valentine's Day labels. Avery® 8160 is named only to identify compatible sheets; LabelGrid is not affiliated with Avery.
