Avery L7160 in LibreOffice Writer, step by step

  1. Open the Labels dialog

In LibreOffice Writer, choose File › New › Labels; the dialog has Labels, Format and Options tabs, and all three matter for L7160.

  2. Pick the L7160 template

On the Labels tab, choose the Brand “Avery A4” and look for L7160 in Type. Brand and type lists vary by version; if L7160 is missing, use the next step.

  3. Or enter L7160 by hand

On the Format tab enter the L7160 values: Horizontal pitch 66 mm, Vertical pitch 38.1 mm, Width 63.5 mm, Height 38.1 mm, Left margin 7.2 mm, Top margin 15.2 mm, Columns 3, Rows 7, Page width 210 mm, Page height 297 mm; save it for next time.

  4. Edit once, copy to all

On the Options tab tick Synchronize contents and click New Document. Edit the top-left L7160 label, then click Synchronize Labels to copy it to all 21.

  5. Merge a spreadsheet

For one L7160 label per row, pick your registered spreadsheet under Database and Table on the Labels tab and insert its fields; when you print, LibreOffice asks whether to print a form letter: answer Yes.

  6. Print L7160 at 100 %

File › Print: paper A4, no “fit to page” scaling; a plain-paper test should show 7 rows of L7160 labels 38.1 mm apart.

Worked example: 100 address labels on L7160

A merge of 100 rows prints 5 pages of 21 Avery L7160 labels; the last page uses 16 positions and 5 stay blank. Preview the first page before sending all 5 to the printer.

In the LabelGrid designer the same 100 rows go into merge mode; the free version prints the first 21 (one full L7160 sheet) and Pro removes the limit. To reuse a part-used sheet, set the start position to the first empty label.

When L7160 labels print out of line in LibreOffice Writer

  • L7160 labels print on the wrong paper size: check Format › Page Style matches A4; LibreOffice may default to your locale's paper.
  • Only the first L7160 label changed: Synchronize contents was off. Open the Options tab again, tick it, and click Synchronize Labels.
  • If every L7160 label printed from LibreOffice Writer is off by the same amount, the printer feeds off-centre: add the measured offset to the 15.2 mm top or 7.2 mm side margin, or use the LabelGrid printer offset.
