The best sheet for freezer labels
Labels for frozen meals and leftovers: what it is, when it was frozen and how to reheat it. Avery 5163 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for freezer labels here.
Each label is 4″ (101.6 mm) wide and 2″ (50.8 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.162″ (4.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Reheat: thaw overnight, simmer 10 min”, has 37 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 10 lines of 54 characters, at 8 pt about 13 lines of 67.
Compared with 5163: Avery 5160 has 33 % of the label area and 30 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your containers need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing freezer labels
- Stick labels on before you fill and freeze: labels stick poorly to frosty surfaces.
- Leave a blank “Frozen on” line and write the date by hand; the printed part stays reusable.
- Standard paper labels can lift in the freezer; freezer-grade label stock grips at low temperatures.
- Write portions on the label so you can grab the right size for one person or the family.
How many sheets for your containers
One label per container. For 30 containers on Avery 5163 you need 3 sheets, with no label left over.

Frequently asked questions
What size are freezer labels?
LabelGrid's default for freezer labels is 2″ × 4″ (Avery 5163, 10 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″ and Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″.
How many freezer labels fit on one sheet?
10 on Avery 5163, 30 on Avery 5160 and 6 on Avery 5164. For 60 containers at 1 label each you need 6 sheets of Avery 5163.
Can every label on the sheet be different?
Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits freezer labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my freezer labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
