The best sheet for pantry labels
Labels for pantry containers, bins and shelves: contents, and optionally the date or cooking notes. Avery 5163 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for pantry labels here.
Each label is 4″ (101.6 mm) wide and 2″ (50.8 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.162″ (4.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “1/2 cup oats + 1 cup water · 5 min”, has 34 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 10 lines of 54 characters, at 8 pt about 13 lines of 67.
Compared with 5163: Avery 5160 has 33 % of the label area and 30 instead of 10 labels per sheet, Avery 5294 has 78 % of the label area and 12 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your containers need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing pantry labels
- Cooking ratios on the label (rice to water, minutes) save looking up the packet you threw away.
- Write the expiry date from the original packet on a second line when you decant.
- Uniform labels across the pantry look calm; one colour accent per category (grains, baking, snacks) helps find things.
- Plastic containers that go in the dishwasher need water-resistant label stock or hand washing.
How many sheets for your containers
One label per container. For 30 containers on Avery 5163 you need 3 sheets, with no label left over.

Frequently asked questions
What size are pantry labels?
LabelGrid's default for pantry labels is 2″ × 4″ (Avery 5163, 10 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″, Avery 5294 at 2 1/2″ round and Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″.
How many pantry labels fit on one sheet?
10 on Avery 5163, 30 on Avery 5160, 12 on Avery 5294 and 6 on Avery 5164. For 60 containers at 1 label each you need 6 sheets of Avery 5163.
Can every label on the sheet be different?
Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits pantry labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my pantry labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
