The best sheet for shipping labels
Large labels for parcels and boxes: recipient address, sender and handling notes, readable from a distance. Avery 5163 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for shipping labels here.
Each label is 4″ (101.6 mm) wide and 2″ (50.8 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.162″ (4.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the first sample row, “9 Pine Ridge Rd”, has 15 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 10 lines of 54 characters, at 8 pt about 13 lines of 67.
Compared with 5163: Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 10 labels per sheet, Avery 5168 has 2.2× the label area and 4 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5126 has 5.8× the label area and 2 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your parcels need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing shipping labels
- Postage labels bought online come as their own PDF; LabelGrid labels are for addresses and handling notes, not paid postage.
- Put the label on the largest flat face of the box, away from seams and tape edges.
- Half-sheet labels (two per sheet) let you print one label now and the second next time; set the start position to 2.
- Cover address labels with clear tape if parcels may get wet; plain paper labels are not waterproof.
How many sheets for your parcels
One label per parcel. For 50 parcels on Avery 5163 you need 5 sheets, with no label left over.
| Parcels | Labels | Avery 5163 (10/sheet) | Avery 5164 (6/sheet) | Avery 5168 (4/sheet) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 parcels | 10 | 1 sheet | 2 sheets | 3 sheets |

Frequently asked questions
What size are shipping labels?
LabelGrid's default for shipping labels is 2″ × 4″ (Avery 5163, 10 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″, Avery 5168 at 3 1/2″ × 5″ and Avery 5126 at 5 1/2″ × 8 1/2″.
How many shipping labels fit on one sheet?
10 on Avery 5163, 6 on Avery 5164, 4 on Avery 5168 and 2 on Avery 5126. For 200 parcels at 1 label each you need 20 sheets of Avery 5163.
Can I print shipping labels from a spreadsheet list?
Yes. Switch the designer to merge mode, paste your rows with a header (Name, Street, City, State and ZIP) and each row becomes one label; placeholders like {Name} pull the values in. The free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my shipping labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
