Avery 5168 in LibreOffice Writer, step by step
-
Open the Labels dialog
In LibreOffice Writer, choose File › New › Labels; the dialog has Labels, Format and Options tabs, and all three matter for 5168.
-
Pick the 5168 template
On the Labels tab, choose the Brand “Avery Letter Size” and look for 5168 in Type. Brand and type lists vary by version; if 5168 is missing, use the next step.
-
Or enter 5168 by hand
On the Format tab enter the 5168 values: Horizontal pitch 4 in, Vertical pitch 5 in, Width 3.5 in, Height 5 in, Left margin 0.5 in, Top margin 0.5 in, Columns 2, Rows 2, Page width 8.5 in, Page height 11 in; save it for next time.
-
Edit once, copy to all
On the Options tab tick Synchronize contents and click New Document. Edit the top-left 5168 label, then click Synchronize Labels to copy it to all 4.
-
Merge a spreadsheet
For one 5168 label per row, pick your registered spreadsheet under Database and Table on the Labels tab and insert its fields; when you print, LibreOffice asks whether to print a form letter: answer Yes.
-
Print 5168 at 100 %
File › Print: paper US Letter, no “fit to page” scaling; a plain-paper test should show 2 rows of 5168 labels 5 in apart.
Worked example: 50 shipping labels on 5168
A merge of 50 rows prints 13 pages of 4 Avery 5168 labels; the last page uses 2 positions and 2 stay blank. Preview the first page before sending all 13 to the printer.
In the LabelGrid designer the same 50 rows go into merge mode; the free version prints the first 4 (one full 5168 sheet) and Pro removes the limit. To reuse a part-used sheet, set the start position to the first empty label.

When 5168 labels print out of line in LibreOffice Writer
- 5168 labels print on the wrong paper size: check Format › Page Style matches US Letter; LibreOffice may default to your locale's paper.
- Only the first 5168 label changed: Synchronize contents was off. Open the Options tab again, tick it, and click Synchronize Labels.
- If every 5168 label printed from LibreOffice Writer is off by the same amount, the printer feeds off-centre: add the measured offset to the 0.5 in top or 0.5 in side margin, or use the LabelGrid printer offset.

4 labels of 3.5 in × 5 in on US Letter, 2 across and 2 down. On LibreOffice's Format tab: pitch 4 in × 5 in, margins 0.5 in left and 0.5 in top.
Why do my 5168 labels from LibreOffice Writer drift down the page?
