The best sheet for water bottle labels

Wrap-around labels for small water bottles at parties, weddings, events and sports days. Avery 5163 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for water bottle labels here.

Each label is 4″ (101.6 mm) wide and 2″ (50.8 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.162″ (4.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Leo's 7th birthday”, has 18 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 10 lines of 54 characters, at 8 pt about 13 lines of 67.

Compared with 5163: Avery 5161 has 50 % of the label area and 20 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5160 has 33 % of the label area and 30 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your bottles need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing water bottle labels

Remove the original label and dry the bottle completely before applying yours.
Bottles in coolers get wet: inkjet ink can run, so use laser printing or waterproof label stock.
Team or player names in merge mode stop bottle mix-ups at sports events.
Measure the bottle's label area height; many small bottles have about 2″ of straight wall.

What size are water bottle labels?

How many water bottle labels fit on one sheet?

10 on Avery 5163, 20 on Avery 5161 and 30 on Avery 5160. For 100 bottles at 1 label each you need 10 sheets of Avery 5163.

Can every label on the sheet be different?

Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits water bottle labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.

Why do my water bottle labels print out of line?

Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
